LG TV Changes Input on Its Own

Do you have an LG TV that changes inputs on its own? Are you frustrated by the lack of control over your viewing experience? If so, you’re not alone. In this blog post, we’ll explore the causes and solutions to this common problem. Read on to learn more!

Software Reset

If a software reset is needed, it’s best to turn the power off at the plug and then hold the power button down for 15 seconds to reset the TV. With the power still off, select the input you want to rename and use the Home button on your remote control. Once in Settings, disable any auto input features and check the Timer Menu Options for TVs turning on/off automatically. Lastly, you can turn off HDMI CEC which may help prevent your LG TV from changing inputs on its own.

Disable Auto Input Features

To disable the auto input features of your LG TV, turn off the Quick Start Mode. This feature detects which input you’re using and changes automatically. You can also turn off the Auto Power Sync setting, which will prevent your device from switching to a different HDMI input when turned on.

Remove Batteries from the Remote

Checking the batteries in the remote is an important step to take if your LG TV keeps changing inputs by itself. Removing the batteries from the remote can help verify that the channel select button is not stuck, as this could be causing your TV to change inputs on its own. Additionally, check to see if the LED light on the remote turns on when you press a button. If it does not, it could be a sign that the batteries are running low and need to be replaced.

Remove any External Devices

In addition to a software reset, disabling auto input features and removing batteries from the remote, it’s also important to remove any external devices that may be causing interference with the TV’s input. This includes devices such as gaming consoles or Blu-ray players that are connected to your TV via HDMI. Unplugging the TV power cord from the electrical outlet can also help to reset any settings that may be causing the input to randomly switch.

Reset to Factory Defaults

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be time to reset your LG TV to its factory settings. To do this, press the Home button on your remote control and choose Settings. Then, navigate to the Auto Sensing Input Feature and turn it off. Once you’ve completed this step, your TV will be reset to its factory settings.

Enable SIMPLINK

The previous step may have resolved the issue of your LG TV changing the input on its own. If not, consider enabling the SIMPLINK feature. SIMPLINK allows you to use your TV remote control to control the basic functions of connected devices. Navigate to the Settings menu, and ensure that SIMPLINK is set to On. However, be aware that having SIMPLINK enabled will automatically set HDMI to Off, so you will not be able to use HDMI while this feature is active.

Press Home Button on Remote Control

In order to access the settings menu, press the “HOME” button on your remote control. From there, you can select the “Settings” option and then adjust the Auto Input Change feature. If this doesn’t resolve the problem, then you may need to reset the remote control and try to re-register. To do so, press and hold the Settings button on your TV remote for longer than five seconds. Additionally, you can also try removing any external devices that may be causing the issue, as well as resetting your television to its factory defaults. Finally, you may want to consider enabling SIMPLINK for your LG TV if it is available.

Choose Settings and Auto Sensing Input Feature

In the Settings menu, you can also find the Auto Sensing Input Feature. This feature is designed to automatically switch the input when the signal that you set to On is received. If Auto Sensing is enabled, TVs will switch inputs by themselves when the auto input feature is enabled. It might also change on its own when your software is not updated. Additionally, with the Auto Power Sync setting switched on, turning on a device connected to SIMPLINK will also turn on the TV by selecting the appropriate input.

Check Time Menu Options for TVs Turning On/Off Automatically

To prevent your LG TV from turning on and off randomly, it’s important to check the time menu options. Smart TVs have a feature called Anynet (also known as HDMI-CEC) that allows connected external HDMI devices to inform the TV when it should turn on or off. You can disable this feature by unplugging the TV power cord from the electrical outlet and accessing the settings menu on your LG smart TV. Depending on your model, you may be able to locate this feature under settings > all settings > device connection > HDMI CEC control, where you can then disable CEC control and set device auto power off and TV auto power off. If you find that the settings menu is also stretched or distorted, you may need to reset the TV to factory defaults.

Turn Off HDMI CEC

To turn off HDMI CEC, press the Home button on your remote control and navigate to Settings. Then, select INlink CEC Control and set Device Auto Power off and TV Auto Power to Off. This should stop your LG TV from changing inputs on its own.
